Rebel Wolves, the studio behind the highly anticipated game The Blood of Dawnwalker, has reassured fans that despite some unsettling news from NetEase, everything is on track. The gaming community was recently buzzing with reports suggesting that some of NetEase’s investments in overseas studios might see their funding halted, prompting concerns about the future of several projects.
This development had particularly put a spotlight on Rebel Wolves, considering NetEase holds a stake in the company. Adding to the uncertainty was the situation faced by legendary game creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, who left RGG to start his own venture with hopes of crafting a novel IP. However, putting some of these concerns to rest, Rebel Wolves’ Chief Publishing Officer, Tomasz Tinc, took to LinkedIn to set the record straight.
Tinc expressed gratitude for the support from the community and clarified, “Our game development is right on track and we’re not facing any financial hurdles. The Blood of Dawnwalker is fully funded, and we’re actively collaborating with Bandai Namco, our global publisher, to bring our vision to the first chapter of the Dawnwalker saga.”
He also highlighted that the majority of Rebel Wolves is owned by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and other studio co-founders, reinforcing NetEase’s position as merely a minority shareholder.
This update offers comfort to those eagerly awaiting The Blood of Dawnwalker. However, it still sparks curiosity about the ongoing situation at NetEase. Interestingly, a report suggested the company’s CEO contemplated canceling Marvel Rivals, possibly opting to create an original game instead to circumvent Disney’s licensing fees. Considering Marvel Rivals recently reached a staggering 40 million players, this is quite the head-turner.
