So, get this—out of nowhere, Apple might just be teaming up with Sony. Yeah, you heard me right, Apple and Sony. I never thought I’d see the day. They’re looking at adding VR motion controllers to the Vision Pro. I mean, they’re bringing in support for PSVR 2’s Sense Controllers. Wild.
9to5Mac threw us a bone and said the project’s still on track. We might hear something official next week—maybe, who knows? They’re saying visionOS will not only buddy up with those Sense Controllers but also with PlayStation and Xbox gamepads. Talk about playing nice.
But here’s the twist, and trust me, it’s a good one: we’re not sure if Apple will spill the beans at their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week. It might be later. Or never, who can say? Anyway, they’re shaking things up with visionOS 26, and that’s happening at WWDC. Oh, and macOS and iOS are getting some love too with the new update. Exciting stuff, right?
Now, you gotta think about this—Vision Pro hit the ground running back in Feb 2024 and caused a stir. It’s a pricey beast at $3,500! It only plays nice with hand-tracking and Bluetooth doodads like your basic gamepads and keyboards. So, XR studios are scratching their heads, wondering if they should start from scratch or tweak what’s already out there. Why, you ask? Well, not every game fits into the hand-tracking mold, duh.
Picture this, adding PSVR 2 controllers ain’t gonna suddenly make everyone and their grandma rush out to buy a Vision Pro. It’s not a gaming console per se—it’s more like a spatial computer, or so they say. But maybe, just maybe, Apple’s prepping us for when motion controllers become mainstream with cheaper headsets. Fingers crossed, right?
A little bird (okay, it was Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman) told us Apple had a powwow with Sony back in early 2024. They thought about making PSVR 2 controllers a thing. Funny, since Apple was all “nah, no VR controllers for us” just before dropping in on Sony. But here we are, possibilities hanging in the air.
So, stick with us, folks. The big shindig kicks off on June 9th at 10 AM PT. Who knows what Apple will throw at us? Follow along on their YouTube Channel if you’re curious. I know I’ll have my popcorn ready.
