Okay, so picture this: a bunch of VR shooters are out there trying to do what Valve’s Counter-Strike did ages ago. Why? Beats me. But soon, you can play the OG game on your Quest or Pico headset, thanks to those wizards at Team Beef. They’re kind of like the cool kids who bring retro video games back to life for VR. We’re talking Tomb Raider, Duke Nukem 3D — all those pixelly favorites, remember?
Anyway, back to Counter-Strike 1.6. Yep, the legendary game itself. Not the Half-Life mod version, but the full-on standalone one from Steam back in 2000. Can you believe it? Team Beef’s like, “Hey, let’s make a VR port!” They’re using this Xash3D FWGS thingy—sounds fancy, doesn’t it? It kinda mimics Valve’s GoldSrc engine, which I guess is important? They threw in something from Velaron too. I have no clue what that means, but it sounds impressive!
And let’s talk features—because who doesn’t love features? Cross-play’s on the menu. You can create servers from inside VR. How wild is that? Feels like stepping into the Matrix or something. They’re also working on this 6DoF motion control, which probably means you’ll be waving your arms like a maniac while playing. Fun times.
So when can you get your hands on this magic? Well, if you’re a Team Beef Patreon supporter, keep your eyes peeled. Early access is coming “very soon.” Whatever that means. They even dropped a teaser video of an early prototype. But hey, spoiler: no 6DoF motion controls in that one. Guess you’ll have to use your imagination for now.
Yeah, that’s pretty much the rundown. I can’t wait to flail around in VR. Maybe I’ll bump into you on a server — or maybe I’ll just get distracted. Who knows?
