I’m going to give you a bit of a dive, both figuratively and literally, into this game with a title that’s got a nice ring to it—Echoes of Mora. It’s this underwater adventure thing coming to Steam. And hey, if you’ve got one of those VR headsets, it’s got that covered too. Made by some folks over in Berlin, at this small studio called Selkies Interactive. Apparently, it’s just six people. Crazy, right? I mean, what was I doing at six people? Not making indie games, that’s for sure.
So you’ve got these siblings. Two of ’em. And we’re diving into this tale with Mora (yep, that’s a name). She’s searching for her brother who, for reasons best known to the universe, decided it was a great idea to vanish near a cursed lake. Classic sibling drama, am I right? Anyway, you’re poking around this flooded village, solving puzzles and looking for any hints of where he might’ve gone.
Now, Mora’s got this nifty trick—these things called ‘Echoes.’ They’re like, portals to the past, giving you flashbacks or something before the whole place got flooded. So you’re chatting with villagers, piecing together what this place used to be. I guess it’s kind of spooky, in a “I wonder what happened here before things went all Titanic” kind of way. And there are different zones offering all sorts of vibes and brain teasers.
And then, get this—VR swimming uses motion tracking. Which is either going to feel super cool or make me want to barf, depending on how they’ve pulled it off. 🤷♂️ They claim you can switch between VR and non-VR without pulling the plug on your session. Seamless, they say. Uh-huh, guess they mean no awkward pauses or hiccups. Hope it’s true—because nobody has time for tech hiccups.
As for when this whole shebang is landing on Steam, that’s kind of in the ether. No date yet. But what do you know—they’re showing a demo at Gamescom next month. So, if you’re around, that could be neat to check out.
And that’s the scoop. Dive into Echoes of Mora if you get a chance! Or not. Up to you.
