Oh wow, so Meta and EssilorLuxottica just rolled out these new smart glasses or something. I guess they call them Oakley Meta Glasses. It’s like, the next big thing after their Ray-Ban Meta from last year — or was it this year? Anyway, the new ones are called Oakley Meta HSTN. You say HSTN like “HOUSE-ten” or something funky. No clue why they went with that, to be honest.
Pre-orders kick off for these on July 11th, and get this — they’re splashing gold accents, 24K PRIZM polarized lenses, priced at $499. Yep, for the limited version. The rest will come “later this summer,” they claim. Variations without all the glitz, starting around $399. Oh, and they have funky names like Oakley Meta HSTN Desert with Ruby lenses. Can’t make this stuff up!
Here’s the techy bit though—if you’re into it. Apparently, they upped the game on battery life and video capture since the Ray-Ban version. The Oakleys boast a “3K video” on a snazzy 12MP ultra-wide camera, unlike whatever the pixel count was before — 1376×1824 at 30fps, I think. Imagine trying to remember those numbers. They say it can handle eight hours of “typical use” and up to 19 hours for just chilling in standby, which is pretty decent, I guess.
Oh, oh, wait. They come with a charging case too. Add that, and you’re talking 48 hours of battery life. Yeah, that’s right. More than what the Ray-Bans offered. Not to sound too techy, but they’ve got five mics and off-ear speakers for when you’re jamming out in the rain, or maybe just taking calls. They’ve even hit an IPX4 water-resistance rating, so a splash or a bit of sweat won’t ruin your day.
And in case you’re wondering if you can score a pair wherever you are, they’ll be available across places like the US, UK, parts of Europe, and even Australia. Some other spots might have to wait, like Mexico or India. If you’re eager, you could always sign up for updates on their websites. Mark my words (or don’t), it’ll be interesting to see how this shakes out.
