Okay, so here’s the gist. Beat Games, the folks behind Beat Saber, decided to hit pause on updates for PSVR and PSVR 2. Like, as of now. They dropped this bombshell on X (or Twitter or whatever it’s called now). Feels like an “onward and upward” kinda vibe, you know?
If you’re thinking, “Great, now what?” don’t freak out—Beat Saber isn’t disappearing. You can still chop blocks and buy stuff. All that music you bought? Still yours, like a digital mixtape you never have to rewind. But new jams on these platforms? Yeah, nope. Last on the playlist? Lady Gaga’s ‘Abracadabra’—total earworm.
Now, a fun little twist—come January 21, 2026, multiplayer’s going bye-bye on PS4/PS5. Multiplayer was kinda like getting together with friends for a virtual dance-off. Unfortunately, cross-play never made it to PlayStation, so it’s like the cool party you missed out on.
Meta’s still loving on Quest, though. Ten million copies of Beat Saber sold—pretty wild when you think about it. Steam? No worries there; still getting its rhythm on.
And what about Sony? Well, it supported Beat Saber for a good while, but now it’s kinda ghosting it. Since PSVR 2 popped onto the scene, Sony’s been, let’s say, busy doing other things. Maybe they’re just not vibing with VR like they used to. Remember when they made exclusives a big deal? Not so much anymore. Instead, they’re letting folks use the headset for PC VR games with some fancy wire. Total curveball, right? Plus, PSVR 2 controllers are soon gonna play nice with Apple Vision Pro. Who would’ve thought?
Weird state of things, but that’s gaming for ya.
