Okay, so here’s the thing. Rumor has it—don’t ask me where I heard it—that the Tactical Sprint in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 might be… tossed out? I mean, remember that teaser trailer at Xbox’s June showcase? Yeah, the one where they revealed the game’s set in the future, right after Black Ops 2, and followed good old David Mason. I’m already getting those back-to-back sequel vibes like Modern Warfare 2 and MW3. 2024’s Black Ops 6 and then this one? It’s kinda wild.
But, uh, here’s where it gets juicy. Tactical Sprint—you know, that double-tap speed boost thing from 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot? Yeah, it’s been in all the games since apart from Black Ops Cold War. But yeah, many folks are over it because it makes the regular sprint feel like it’s dragging its feet. I’m talking sloth-speed here. Yet, for the pros who master it? Well, they’re like ninjas zipping around corners.
Anyways, Treyarch, the masterminds (or mad scientists, depending on your view) behind Black Ops 7, are apparently playing around with the idea of cutting Tac-Sprint. Or so says this leaker, TheGhostOfHope, on Twitter. Is it reliable info? Maybe. Are they actually planning to ditch it? Who knows. They might just be testing out new ideas, or maybe they’re just bored. We’ve all had those days.
And, side note, Battlefield 6 has been stealing some spotlight recently. It’s got everyone hyped without even a hint of Tac-Sprint. Could Treyarch be feeling a little… competitive? Taking inspiration or just coincidence? Who can say? If they do drop it, maybe console players will give their thumb sticks a break. Seriously, those thumb sticks have been through enough.
Expect to hear more next week at Gamescom. They might finally spill the beans on whether we’ll be sprinting tactically or not in November—or whenever it drops. Gamescom’s the spot for all the juicy reveals, right? Fingers crossed, but not holding my breath. We’ll just have to wait and see what Treyarch decides to lay on us.
