Oh wow, so here we are, launch week for the Nintendo Switch 2. Can you believe it? People are literally bouncing from one store to another, hoping to snag this new console that’s priced at a whopping $449.99. Seriously, I don’t know if it’s worth that much, but hey, people are excited, right?
Now, if you’re into gaming — and I mean really into it — you might find yourself torn between this and, say, some other gaming handhelds running Windows 11 or SteamOS. They’re very different vibes, I think. Not sure what pulls more at my wallet, but I kinda want both. I mean, why choose?
And get this — major plot twist — some gaming handheld makers are shaking things up. Lenovo’s dropped the price of their Legion Go by $200. Pretty tempting, huh? It’s like they want us to think twice about what to buy if we’ve got around $500 to throw around.
Now switching gears — here comes the ASUS ROG Ally X saga. Apparently, they thought “let’s bump up the price instead.” Yeah, it’s gone up, permanently, as far as I can tell. Someone on Reddit, skumbagkitty (what a name, right?), spotted the price change. Now it’s starting at $899.99. Wait, what? If you want 2TB of storage, brace yourself for spending $999.99. Ouch.
Maybe tariffs are to blame. A bunch of these handhelds got pricier after tariff talk went all dramatic earlier this year.
Oh, and if you head over to Best Buy, you’ll see it right there, those enhanced prices in all their glory. ASUS, in their defense, says they’ve got a unique thing going, not to be compared with others like the Steam Deck. I mean, I get it. They claim their device is all about unique gaming experiences, ace performance, and some serious FPS and graphics action. Fair points, but pricey!
Now talking about all this makes the Nintendo Switch 2 even more appealing price-wise. But hey, is just one ROG Ally X really at par with two Switch 2 consoles? Kinda blows my mind. Some folks are cool with that idea, apparently. Where do you fall in this? Let me know, would love to hear it.
On to the shopping adventure — finding a Nintendo Switch 2 is like trying to find the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle. One of my buddies hit up nine stores without luck. Nine! But TechRadar’s got this live blog thing that might help, links and all.
If you’re into bundles, Antonline has some, but at $609.95, still cheaper than an ROG Ally X. And if you’re playing retailer roulette, keep an eye on Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, Newegg, and Amazon. Here’s hoping you get lucky.
Anyway, that’s the scoop. Dive in, decide, and happy hunting for your next gaming wonder!
