So here’s the thing. Licensing in video games? Man, always feels like a pesky little gremlin, doesn’t it? Just lurking around, waiting to pull the rug out from under us. And yep, it’s happening again.
Let’s talk about John Wick Hex. Yeah, the only real John Wick game we’ve got. Seriously, how crazy is that? One game! But anyway, it’s about to vanish into the digital ether on every platform. Poof! Gone.
Now, officially… there’s nothing saying the John Wick license is expiring, but c’mon, what else could it be, right? Dot all the i’s or whatever. It’s just the vibe I’m getting.
Oh, and there’s this short and sweet message on the game’s Steam page. Let me paraphrase: “John Wick Hex is off the market everywhere come July 17th, 2025.” After that, if you own it, great. Play it on your PC or console, hold onto those physical copies if you’ve got ’em. But buying it new? Nope. Not happening.
And here I am, looking at my calendar. July 17 is right around the corner. If you’ve ever thought about snagging a copy, now’s the time. Full disclosure: I’m guilty of never really diving into John Wick Hex myself. But hey, I grabbed a digital copy just so it won’t be one of those “what if” things. We don’t need more of those, right?
Apparently, even physical copies on Xbox and PlayStation might vanish too. So heads up!
Now, here’s the kicker: John Wick Hex isn’t your typical Wick action frenzy. Nope, it’s got this strategy game vibe – kinda like chess where time’s also out to get you. And the voices! Ian McShane, Lance Reddick (RIP), and Troy Baker bringing it all to life. Pretty slick, if you ask me.
Licensing gobbling up a game’s shelf life is just plain sad. But, it’s the world we live in, you know? Anyone remember the headache with Forza Horizon? Licenses for music and cars… a whole mess. They’ve got expiration dates, what can you do? And, a discount on John Wick Hex would’ve been nice, right? Give everyone a chance to jump in. But no dice there.
Bottom line, if you want it, head to Steam or Epic Games for PC, or the Xbox store. Do it now, before it just becomes a memory.
