Stainless Games is shaking things up a bit—like a snow globe in a hurricane. So, Ben Gunstone’s the new CEO, right? Yep, that’s happening. He’s stepping up, taking the reins from Patrick Buckland, who, by the way, started this whole thing back in 1994. Ah, the 90s… what a time for gaming! Buckland’s been the big boss since day one, and now, well, it’s time for a change of scenery, I suppose.
Ben’s been kicking around Stainless since 2022. Not really a long haul, but hey, sometimes things just click. Came in as a game director, and now he’s the head honcho. Before Stainless, he hung out at Dovetail Games for a while. Not sure how long, though, maybe just enough to get a lay of the land?
So, Ben says he’s “delighted” and all that jazz. Who wouldn’t be? Taking over a company that’s been around since, well, Michael Jackson was rocking the music charts must be a trip. Patrick left some legendary shoes to fill—the guy has his fingerprints all over the place, for crying out loud! Gunstone talks about blending that legacy with his vision or something. Sounds intense—and maybe a little stressful?
Patrick’s not disappearing into the sunset, though. Nope. Shifting gears, he calls it. He’s gonna be the Executive Chairman now. I guess it’s like stepping back but still keeping an eye on the kid from afar. He’s 62 now, or so he says (claims he doesn’t look a day over 70—classic Patrick humor there). Wants to avoid the daily nitty-gritty stress? I don’t blame him. He’s got Stainless running in his veins, though. Still owns most of it. Bet he feels like he’s handing over his first car to someone he trusts not to crash it on the first joyride.
Games, games, and more games. That’ll be his jam, he mentions. By the way, he clearly trusts Ben implicitly—makes you wonder what kind of bond these guys have. It’s like passing the torch while still holding a flashlight or something. Weird analogy? Maybe. But it’s their gig, so here’s hoping they keep making waves. Onwards and upwards, as Patrick puts it. Whatever the heck that means for them!
