Oh man, so here’s the thing: Nintendo just knocked it out of the park. Seriously. The new Switch 2 flew off the shelves like hotcakes. I mean, 3.5 million units, bam, just like that. And in four days? That’s wild. Compared to the OG Switch, it’s like, way more — 760,000 more in a month back then versus this craziness now. I guess people are really digging it.
Apparently, this blew past any record they had. Like, they’ve never seen numbers like this in such a short time. It’s like, whoosh — they’re already inching towards selling 15 million by March 2026. Quite the ambitious plan, but hey, seems doable now.
But hey, wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, trust me. Some folks walked into GameStop in New York, excited to grab their new console, and bam! Huge letdown. Staples puncturing screens — no kidding! Imagine the horror. Luckily, they got replacements, phew.
Meanwhile, in the UK, things were a bit shady too. People got their boxes and, surprise, surprise — looked like someone had already taken a sneak peek. Apparently, the tape was weaker than my willpower on a Friday night, so the boxes didn’t stay sealed.
Yet, you gotta hand it to Nintendo, they crammed a lot into this new device. Sure, it takes a bit more juice, but with the new tech like Joy-Con 2 controllers acting like a mouse, who cares about battery life? Bigger screen too, 7.9 inches, 1080p, 120Hz, and all that jazz. Pretty snazzy.
And don’t get me started on the specs — they went all out. Eight ARM cores, custom Nvidia Ampere GPU, loads of RAM, and up to massive 2TB storage, if you’re one of those techy folks who love shoving more memory in everything.
Oh! Almost forgot! People are talking about some DIY madness where you could maybe, just maybe, use an M2 NVMe SSD with this thing. Wacky, right? But hey, tech people love to tinker.
Despite the hype, if you’re hunting for a Switch 2, not everyone’s sold out. GameStop and Best Buy still have some, and over in the UK, they’re lying around, waiting for a new home.
So yeah, stay in the loop with Tom’s Hardware — or don’t, your call. But if you wanna know what’s up in tech, that’s where to look.
