I heard about this game called STARVAULT the other day, and I gotta tell you, it sounds like a wild ride. The folks over at Theia Games have tossed it into open beta for Quest, saying it’s this VR multiplayer battle thingamajig. MOBA, they call it—like the usual games, but in VR. And I’m thinking, “Why do I always end up trying these things out?”
So, picture this, you got these epic 5-on-5 battles, right? Nine heroes to pick from, and they all come with weird and wonderful weapons and skills. It’s like a buffet, but with battle strategies. Just like your typical MOBAs, it’s all about those enemy lanes. Push ’em hard, crush some towers, and snatch up enemy spots to control the map. Sounds fun, or at least that’s what they say.
And yeah, you gotta deal with creeps—enemy creeps to be exact. Clear ’em out, farm ’em like you’re on a cosmic farm, and then aim for the Energy Core. That’s where you rake in the XP and credits. Honestly, I might have zoned out thinking about cosmic farms for a sec. XP lets you level up, and credits… well, buy stuff. Artifacts, powers—just more ways to mess with your friends, I guess.
But here’s the kicker: it’s seen through your own eyes like HALO. There are portals (who doesn’t love those?) and jump pads that fling you across the map like a kid on a trampoline. Theia says it’s early days for the game, which makes me wonder what’s cooking behind the scenes.
It’s free right now, none of that microtransaction jazz. But they’re talking about fancy skins and battle passes later on. No pay-to-win though, which is kinda refreshing. They wanna pop this thing into Early Access by Summer 2025, with more heroes and all that jazz. And they’re dreaming of turning STARVAULT into a VR esport. Ambitious or just crazy? Sometimes those things are the same.
If you’re curious—or simply reckless—you can dive in for free during the open beta on Quest 2 and up. Not sure why all this sticks with me, but there you go.
