Finding out about EA finally deciding to pull Anthem offline has been a wild ride, really. I mean, I remember when it first launched, back in early 2019, and everyone was saying it was gonna be huge. No kidding, right? But then…well, it sorta fizzled out. Anyway, EA said Anthem’s going offline January 12th, 2026. Mark your calendar, I guess. And don’t even think about buying new in-game currency—it ain’t happening. But hey, if you’ve got any left, you can still use it. Silver linings?
Oh, and in their blog post, they were all about appreciating our “dedication, passion and support.” Pretty standard send-off stuff, but still, makes you feel kinda warm and fuzzy. Or maybe that’s just me getting sentimental over video games.
And about those layoffs—EA insists there aren’t any tied to this. Fingers crossed, right? But who knows what might happen later. Corporate world, man. Always a mystery.
Anthem was supposed to be BioWare and EA’s big live-service bang—ended up more of a whimper, though. There was all this talk about stuff not going smoothly during development. Go figure, right? So, they mentioned this whole rework thing, calling it Anthem Next. Sounded promising until, surprise! Canceled. Just like that.
No clue why this journey sticks with me, but it does. Maybe it’s because I just love rooting for the underdog. Or maybe…I just can’t help hoping there’ll be another twist in the tale. Anyway—no, hang on—yeah, that’s about it.
