Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Possibly Set Outside Night City

So, have you ever dived into those rumors about the next Cyberpunk game? It’s like, maybe they’re packing up Night City and moving to a new place… or not. Honestly, who knows? They say we might “visit” another city — but does that mean we’re settling down there or just popping in for a quick look? No idea.

Cyberpunk 2077, that wild ride of a game, had this weird journey. It started rocky but, like, pulled it together eventually. Remember when the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime hit? That was a thing, right? And then 2023 gave us the whole Phantom Liberty DLC. Anyway, now CD Projekt Red (let’s just call them CDPR) is into this sequel thingy, “Project Orion.” Yeah, catchy name, huh?

Details? Sparse. It’s like trying to grab fog. There’s gossip about it being called Cyberpunk 2. And maybe, just maybe, it’ll have multiplayer? Who knows. The plot and characters? Total mystery. Are we sticking with V, or meeting someone new? And then, which ending of the original gets priority? Mind-boggling.

Mike Pondsmith, yeah that Mike — creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop stuff — had some things to say. He was chatting at this Digital Dragons thingy in 2025 over in Poland (great pierogi there, by the way). He casually mentioned a second city in Project Orion, but then zipped his lips. Classic tease, right?

Oh, and have you seen those in-game posters in Cyberpunk 2077? They mention Chicago, suggesting it’s a stone’s throw from Night City. So naturally, everyone’s chatting about whether this new game might drop us into a futuristic Windy City. Or maybe we go space-bound, since that was floated as DLC once. Moon colony, anyone?

Backtracking a bit — Pondsmith only said “visiting” a new city. So, don’t hold your breath thinking we’re settling down somewhere new. No release date on this sequel either, so like, don’t cancel your plans or anything. CDPR has a bunch going on: The Witcher 4, a remake, some multiplayer antics, and even an entirely new project lurking out there.
