You know, there’s something oddly charming about Yuji Horii just… not being able to keep a lid on things. It’s like he’s an excited kid who can’t help but spill the beans. Anyway, I remember—well, not remember exactly, more like heard, I guess?—that he’s kinda notorious for accidentally leaking stuff. I mean, really, he’s done it before. At this comic con in Napoli—Italia, if you can believe it—he was chatting with fans about Chrono Trigger.
Now, here’s the kicker. During this panel, Horii—yep, the very same guy who gave us the Dragon Quest treasures—he let it slip. He might’ve hinted, more like blurted, about some kind of Chrono Trigger remake on the horizon. And before anyone could dig deeper, he pulled this cheeky move by covering his mouth and, get this, his translator just said, “You heard nothing.” That’s the kind of drama you don’t get every day. People cheered like wild. No clue why, but it sticks, right?
Look, this isn’t Horii’s first rodeo with leaks. I vaguely recall—probably read it online or something—that around July 2015, the guy was just dropping leaks all over the place. Like, he mentioned the localized versions of Dragon Quest VII and VIII, which Japan already had for a couple of years. Oh, and at some event, he casually revealed that Dragon Quest XI was a thing for the NX (or, you know, the Switch before we even knew that was a thing), and that was supposed to be only about PS4 and 3DS.
March 11 was a big date this year. Chrono Trigger’s 30th birthday or something like that. Kind of a big deal, apparently. Square Enix said they planned on celebrating it more but kept us in the dark about what exactly. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? What are they hiding? Or, rather, what did they not want to blurt like our good friend Horii? Anyway, I’m rambling. But hey, maybe a remake is coming. Or not. Who can really tell?
