Okay, so check this out: 2K and Gearbox Software just threw us a curveball with some extended gameplay footage for Borderlands 4, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 — whenever that happens this year. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much, but man, it was quite the ride.
In this footage — which, by the way, they dropped like a bomb — we had our first glimpse of two of the four new Vault Hunters. So, picture this: Vex the Siren, who’s this total badass, right? She can, like, boost herself up or conjure these deadly shadows to fight at her side. Then there’s Rafa the Exo-Soldier, a dude who’s all about that exo-suit life. I mean, this suit can just pull out weapons from thin air. Totally different playstyles — like, peak Borderlands, really. Oh, and the skill tree system? They’ve cranked it up again.
Now, what’s the deal with Kairos, the planet? It’s massive. Seamless too. Oppressive vibe thanks to this dude, the Timekeeper. He’s been hiding the place forever, controlling people with some cybernetic implants—creepy, right? So folks around there are just done with him. You’ll cross paths with all kinds of new and old faces and some bizarre creatures. Oh, and there are factions fighting against this Timekeeper guy. It’s about gathering friends and making enemies really feel your wrath, Vault Hunter style.
During the PlayStation State of Play, Vex and Rafa made their entrance in Terminus Range. Think icy and mountainous—okay, maybe my fingers got a bit cold just typing that. But what’s wild is the way they’re flaunting the new gear. Weapons from eight manufacturers and this Licensed Parts system that lets you mash different abilities into one weapon. Imagine mixing and matching — unpredictable madness, but somehow genius.
Not to forget, there’s this Ordnance slot for serious firepower. Need a breather in a tough spot? Boom! Grenades or a rocket launcher will get you through. They also introduced something called Rep Kit gear. Need a quick patch-up or a little boost in the middle of a battle? That’s your go-to.
Borderlands 4 is dropping both physically and digitally on the world stage for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Anyway, not gonna lie, it feels both too far and right around the corner. Game on!
